Astoria Bakery Pop-Up

On Sunday, April 14th, the pastry cases at the Mag Mile’s airy French cafe Venteux will be adorned with delectable Eastern European delights from none other than Astoria Bakery, an acclaimed cornerstone of Chicago’s Balkan culinary scene. After moving from Irving Park out to Chicago’s Lisle suburb in 2021, the cult-favorite bakery is bringing its beloved pastries back to the Windy City for one day only. Amidst the lively atmosphere of Venteux’s café, guests can indulge in delightful Eastern European-style pastries and cakes, meticulously prepared by mother-and-daughter duo Suzi and Tanja Jeftenic. Their innovative approach to cooking showcases a blend of traditional recipes and inventive culinary creations from the Balkan region, including krempita, a vanilla custard slice made with puff pastry & Chantilly cream, flakey burek filled with cheese, spinach or beef, and knedle, a potato dumpling made traditionally with plums, but also offered with Nutella and fruit. Indecisive guests will even be able to order a sampler featuring slices of Astoria Bakery’s most popular cakes such as creamy Nutella or velvety Berrylicious!
